On Being Driven

Being Driven to do something is like having an obsession.

...and an obsession has nothing to do with choice.  They are mutually exclusive.

In fact, when you are driven by a passion,

It's easy to forget whole chunks of your life,

Like your family for instance.  You see so many neglected families standing in the shadows of the successful, the famous and the vetted.  Is this what you want for your family?

Most of us like to elevate our passions to the status of a noble cause. Glossy magazines glamorize obsessive behavior..

That's great.

There are some important things that need to be done in this world and it sometimes takes a short period of unreasonable and possibly self destructive focus to get your project kick started.  But you can't sustain that sort of activity for too long without periods of rest, relaxation and recuperation.

But what if this passion is simply an obsession, clothed in beauty?

Eating out your life from it's core - like a drug addict, you pursue

your passion, thinking that your cause is just,

While your wealth slips away, your children grow up without knowing you,

And time steals away your beauty, your youth, your energy and your vitality.

You end up being spent, exhausted, with nothing to show and nothing left to give.

Be careful of being obsessed with anything.

Simply stay in charge and choose powerfully what you put your energy into.

It may not be glamorous, but it's way more rewarding.

All you need is to keep your eyes open, name obsession when you see it in your life and then make a choice.

That's how you free yourself from the cage of obsession.
