Allowing People to Say it and Hearing "Thank You"!

On a recent trip to Christchurch, we scheduled meetings with my coaching clients.


This involved an informal meeting in a cafe called the Boardroom Cafe (a great place to do business in Christchurch!) that was simply for the purposes of human contact. I was not there to be a coach, but to reveal & share the person who had travelled with them on their journey to their goals.


Most of the people I had not met before, as we had only worked together by phone or skype, so there was great anticipation on both sides.


....and our carefully constructed time schedule fell into dissaray with people coming in back-to-back for their meeting.


Something unexpected happened. People started to thank me. They were looking me in the eye and thanking me for saving their marriage, for saving their business, for making them available for their kids. They thanked me for their health, for their understanding and their current situation.


It always happened with them looking straight into my eyes and I couldn't escape it. I wasn't even aware that I had been avoiding it in the coaching process.


..and the person delivering the thank you, seemed released and benefited from saying it. "How could I have missed this?" I was thinking!


...and the effect it had on me was amazing! Every thank you went right on in - deep inside. Every thank you started to live inside of me, started to nurture and strengthen me. It was profound. "How could I have been avoiding this?" I was thinking!


I couldn't ignore it. Even now, at different times during the day, I remember someone in particular, thanking me....


After two days of this, as well as delivering a couple of workshops had me in an amazing head space - I knew the value of my work, I knew the value I bring - I knew it. It was in my step, my posture and within every word I spoke.


My trip to Christchurch has transformed me. Thank you everyone who hung out with me - I got your thanks! .....and your thanks has made me a better, stronger and more aware person - Thank you!


Thank you if you are reading this - I hope it helps you on your way.....and please, please, please - learn from my mistake......allow people to thank you for whatever you add to their lives - it liberates and empowers them....and by you hearing it, it will feed your very soul.
