Internal Locus of Control.

There are two types of locus of control:

Internal and External.

If you have an internal locus of control, you believe that events in your life can be traced back to your own actions.

If you have a external locus of control, you believe that external factors such as authority figures, the government, nature, disease, teachers, leaders etc all control the outcomes of your life.

The good news if you have a internal locus of control is that you are way less likely to live with high levels of stress and not only that, in the event of sickness and/or injury, it appears to be an advantage to feel like you are in control of areas of your illness or injury.

Might be a good reason to start taking more responsibility for the effects of our actions and non-actions.
